Yummy Coffee Dessert Recipes

Coffee can be a terrific dessert all by itself when you pair it with a variety of spices, whipped cream and even some tasty liqueurs. Here are three recipes that will comfort you on a cold winter's night or dress up a dinner party with friends.

Cafe Borgia

Coffee

4 ounces unsweetened chocolate

Yummy Coffee Dessert Recipes

enough sugar to taste

4 tablespoons cream

4 cups hot coffee

4 tablespoons whipped cream

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons grated unsweetened chocolate

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Add the sugar to taste and the cream. Pour in the coffee and beat with a whisk until frothy. Pour into cups and top with whipped cream, ground cinnamon and grated chocolate. If you wish, you can also use a good 70-72% dark chocolate instead of the unsweetened variety and then not add any sugar. This level of dark chocolate will be sweet enough. Yields 4 servings.

Spiced Coffee

8 whole cloves

Peels of 1 small orange and lemon

sugar to taste

1/4 pint brandy or Cointreau

4 cups hot coffee

Combine the cloves, orange and lemon peels and sugar to taste in a warmed bowl. Heat the brandy and pour it into the bowl. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then ignite the brandy and slowly pour in the hot coffee. Stir until the flames die down and pour the mixture into warmed cups. Your guests will enjoy the show too! Yields 4 servings.

Irish Coffee

2/3 cup of strong coffee or espresso

1 teaspoon of sugar

1 jigger of Irish Whiskey

1/4 cup of heavy cream, lightly whipped

This is best served in a thick glass. So, the first thing you should do is heat the glass with hot water to temper it (keep it from breaking). When the glass is nicely warm, remove the water and add the hot coffee with the teaspoon of sugar and stir. Add your whiskey and then top it with the whipping cream. You can even dust the top with cinnamon for a nice tasty touch, if you like. Yields 1 serving.

Campfire Coffee Recipes

Want to know a few secrets to making a good cup of campfire coffee? There are lots of recipes for making coffee in a plain pot over a campfire or for your camping coffee pot. Try a few varieties to see what suits your taste the best. Here are a few good recipes to get you started so your morning or evening brew tastes good every time.

Traditional Campfire Coffee Recipes

Recipe 1. Bring two quarts of water to a good, rolling boil in a camping coffee pot. Take it from the fire and add 2 handfuls of fine ground coffee. Keep in mind that whoever makes the coffee will change the results of this traditional recipe. Steep for 4 minutes. The secret to good campfire coffee is adding a few tablespoons of cold water to the mixture after steeping. This settles the grounds to the bottom. Then pour slowly to keep as many grounds out of your cup as possible.

Recipe 2. Add 6 teaspoons of ground coffee into a camping coffee pot, and pour 3 pints of cold water over the grounds. Put the pot on the fire and bring it to a boil. Take it off the heat and let steep for 3 minutes. Don't forget the secret. Add those few tablespoons of cold water to the mixture after steeping to settle the grounds. This makes about 6 cups of good campfire coffee.

Campfire Perculator Coffee Pot

Recipe 3. This is the most common method of making campfire coffee. Start with 1½ tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee for each 6 oz of water when using a perculator coffee pot. Here is a trick if you end up with grounds in your coffee. Poke a hole in a regular coffee filter and put it in the perk basket. Watch the percolator for the coffee color. The longer it perks the stronger your coffee will be. A perculator coffee pot takes practice but they make great campfire coffee.

Good Tip

If you use unpleasant lake, well or tap water your coffee will never taste very good. Coffee is 98% water so using good water will make all of difference in good or bad coffee. Bring good water with you and you will enjoy your campfire coffee a lot more.
